Cancer does not have a face until it is yours or someone you know#Anthony Del Monte
Happy Monday my fashion and style moguls out there! Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), also referred to in America as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM), is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer. Despite breast cancer being very common, it is not the only type of cancer to be aware of because there are types of cancers that are still as severe.
If you asked me anything about cancer a year ago I would have ignored you or looked at you in oblivion but that changed when this terrible disease hit close to home. My aunt Lucy was diagnosed with breast cancer and it was such a horrifying situation because I saw first hand to what this terrible disease can do to someone. She had beautiful long hair while it all literally fell off, she lost massive weight and she became pale yet her skin used to look like that of a baby. She is now recovering thanks be to God but the shock hasn’t left me.
My other aunt, the one who recently passed away was diagnosed with cancer of the stomach and even though it is cardiac arrest that killed her, the cancer had already taken a toll on her body and it was also discovered when it was too late. Lastly, my birth mother suffered from cancer when she was in the States but she is well now and despite the fact that she told me recently I couldn’t help but get scared and be filled with sorrow because no one loves their loved ones suffering.
I urge you today to kindly go for check ups and this applies to both men and women because men also suffer from prostrate cancer, lung cancer….etc! I was joined by my lovely friends and budding bloggers Wanjiru from www.wanjirukariuki.com and Wanjiku from www.eesome.co.ke so that we could showcase joining hands to fight this catastrophe and more importantly to create awareness. Let’s support those suffering from cancer in any way we can because this disease is not a joke and just because October is coming to an end doesn’t mean this initiative dies till October next year, this is a continuous battle……
Ps, don’t forget to say his to my budding bloggers on their blogs! Love and love!
Stay fashionable, stay stylish and be a fashion style mogul!
