Happy Mondays fellow fashion style moguls, how is the going? It’s been long since I quit modeling and I almost forgot about the life of a model until I ran into my model friend Cynthia Reene Kendi the other day and as we started catching up I remembered how exciting and hectic that life was in equal measure. Modeling is not an easy job as we would like to think especially in Kenya where we just started embracing modeling recently. It takes hard work, persistence, knowledge in the field, perseverance, consistence, passion and determination just like any other job. Many would assume that it is an easy job but I gotta tell you from experience it is not, the many auditions one has to attend and if one is lucky to do a shoot the many photos one has to pose for till the photographer gets the perfect shot.
When it comes to run way modeling one has to be trained by a professional run way trainer and it’s not just walking, there is the angle to stand in while walking and the cat walk itself, don’t get me started with the fact that you have to be wearing 6 inch heels and stopping to do different poses while cat walking. Did I mention when you are called for fittings or a job abruptly and the designers or the agency do not care if you are busy or not? Sometimes it’s dry and there are no gigs for a long while thus modeling can’t be a full time job in Kenya because even the pay might not sustain your livelihood.
In the world of modeling ones moral values can be compromised because of the corruption and sexual immorality in order to get jobs and not forgetting influence to get in to drugs because most events are usually at night of which there is immense partying. The tales about the life of a model will continue in the next post because I gotta recognize my main model of the day who has endured through the process and I gotta say she is now enjoying her life as a model.
