Playing dress-up begins at the age of five and never truly ends
Hey fellow fashion style moguls! How is the going? My life has been a roller coaster that only goes down lately but that doesn’t mean I stop posting fashionable and stylish outfits, life must go on! When I think of denim overalls or denim dungarees my first thoughts always drift towards the 90’s and those really baggy, largely unflattering pairs that many used to wear, coupled with Timberland boots, don’t get me wrong, I ain’t no hater, just saying it as it is.
As trends always come back around, denim overalls are having their moment right now and have been gaining popularity for a minute. Everyone is coming out with their take on the revived trend and giving them a modern update! Gone are the baggy and unsightly sacks of denim you were used to and in are the skinny version! It’s like skinny jeans meets dungarees, how cool is that?
Ever since I was a little girl I always loved dungarees and my mum always made a point of dressing me in them. The problem with this little number is that if you are pressed to go to the bathroom then you will be in for a rough time…. In the 1930s, dungarees caught on as the perfect go-to gear for kids to play in. By the late forties and fifties, dungarees had fully assimilated themselves into the grain of the fashion world, both considered durable attire for the workplace and as comfortable kickback clothes.
Dungarees have attracted some big name celebrity fans in recent times; back in 2010, Alexa Chung appeared in dungarees and little else for Vogue; her 2015 collection for AG Denim has since enjoyed storming success. They’re seen on die-hard fans Kate Bosworth, Katie Holmes, Gwen Steffani,Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Aniston on the regular among many others.
A beloved staple from our childhood days that we’ve grown up with, dungarees have graduated to become a playful look that says retro and modern in the new-old-fashioned-way. My dungaree inspiration today comes from the late Princess Diana who was indeed a fashionista and a free spirit during her time. I decide to try a smart casual that was literally inspired by her but instead of flats I wore heels and I wore a long sleeved blouse while she wore a short sleeved blouse during her time( I didn’t want to copy paste her whole look).
Women began wearing dungarees during the first world war when they took on laboring jobs from the men who went to fight, this is totally a smart casual outfit to work thanks to the world war. Are you a fun of dungarees? Was this a hit or a miss? Lemme know on the comment box below.
